I wrote an Ode to share my experience in Medellin, Colombia. One night I went to a jazz show in Poblado and watched this arbitrary group of jazz musicians play together. It was awe-inspiring. Most of them didn’t know one another, but they took turns jumping in and out of sessions. They all played to a feeling and we all watched. The music was so symbolic to my trip there; no set plan, I’ll just blend in when I land. And I did. The spirit of the night was also symbolic to life in general, we try our best to control it, but its a harmonious chaos. If it ceases to be such, it wouldn’t be a life worth living. We yearn for mystery, happenstance, synchronicity, watching things almost derail yet somehow find its balance. This is jazz, this is life.
